The load limit on the 23rd Street Bridge is being reduced effective Friday, December 6th, 2024. The new load posting is due to bridge deck deterioration discovered during a 2024 inspection. The new posting restricts single-unit vehicles to no more than 15 tons and combination vehicles to 24 tons. Vehicles exceeding these new limits must use alternative routes.
The City of Yankton has completed an inventory of water service lines to determine which properties might be served by lead or galvanized pipes. Letters will be mailed over the next two weeks to properties that have a known lead or galvanized line or if the material was unknown. This letter is a requirement of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources as part of the nationwide lead pipe service replacement requirements.
