Per City Ordinance 1100, effective January 1, 2026, the City of Yankton Municipal Election will be the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November.  

NOTICE OF VACANCY

MUNICIPALITY OF YANKTON

 

 The following offices will become vacant due to the expiration of the present term of the elective officer:

Three (3) Commissioners each for a three (3) year term.

Petition circulation begins

*Note: City Hall offices are closed for the federal holiday on July 3rd.  A petition cannot be notarized or circulated prior to that date.

Petitions can be picked up at the City Finance Office during normal business hours or can be printed directly from the SD Secretary of State's website.  Click here for guidelines on how to circulate a nominating petition.

Petitions must be filed in the City Finance Office or withdrawn by 5 p.m.

*Drawing for candidate ballot order will take place at the City Hall Gym on August 20th at noon. 

Candidates must submit a Candidate Financial Interest Statement within 15 days of filing their nominating petition (SDCL 12-25-30)

Remember to update your voter registrationTo vote for City Commission candidates, you must live within Yankton city limits, and be registered with the Yankton County Auditor.
