About The Library
Yankton Community Library
Established in 1903, Yankton Community Library is one of the oldest public libraries in South Dakota. Moving from its Carnegie building location to its current site at 515 Walnut Street in 1973, the Library has since been supported by the City of Yankton, with contributions from Yankton County. The Library provides informational, recreational, cultural, and educational needs through a variety of materials, services, and programs.
Governed by a mayoral-appointed board of five along with one city and one county commissioner, the Library strives to be a mainstay within the community with a friendly staff always available to be of service to patrons.
The Library holds 85,000 items including books, newspapers, DVDs, audiobooks, and a growing Library of Things like Toy Bins, Book Club Kits, laptops, hot spots and so much more. Patrons can also access eBooks and eAudiobooks, through our web site as well as a number of electronic databases made available to us by the South Dakota State Library.
