Yankton Housing and Redevelopment serves tenants within Yankton County, Lake Andes City Limits, Bon Homme County, Gregory County, and Tripp County.  To complete a waiting list application please go to our participant portal at Yankton Housing & Redevelopment Commission (neighborlysoftware.com)  If you require assistance completing the online application, please call the office at 605-668-5256 to schedule an appointment for staff to assist you. 

THE YHRC WAITING LIST IS CURRENTLY 12 MONTHS LONG.

Currently, YHRC is targeting households that are 30% of the area median income. The following income link shows the Income Limits. Your application will be placed on the wait list based on the time and date your application was received. Applicants eligible for preference consideration will receive priority over those non-preference applicants. Our current preferences are:
  • Living in Substandard Housing or Homeless
  • Paying more than 50% of income toward rent and utilities
  • Gainfully Employed
  • Victim of Domestic Violence
  • Head of the household Disabled or Handicapped

If at any time there are changes in preferences claimed, please update your application on the participant portal. We will contact you by email when your name reaches the top of the waiting list and funding is available.

Once your voucher is issued, you will be required to attend a mandatory in-person briefing. If you are unable to attend the first scheduled briefing following your voucher issuance, you may opt to attend the next available session. However, you must attend a mandatory briefing before you can proceed with leasing up.

If you live outside of Yankton County and are unable to commute to Yankton for the in-person session, please notify YHRC staff. A Microsoft Teams link will be provided so you can attend the meeting virtually.

The YHRC participant portal contains information about the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program administered by the Yankton Housing and Redevelopment Commission. Applicants must complete all required sections of the application on the participant portal and provide all of the required documents. Completion of this application assures your place on the waiting list for rent assistance, NOT your eligibility.

*Keep in mind that should you move after you have submitted your application, it is your responsibility to update your information through the participant portal. If we are unable to reach you, we cannot process your eligibility for participation in this program.
