TRANSFER STATION TRUCK OPERATOR
The City of Yankton is seeking qualified internal applicants for Transfer Station Truck Operator in the Public Works Department.
An employee in this position is responsible for managing and scheduling solid waste and recycling trailer trips to Vermillion Landfill and returning the empty trailers to Yankton Transfer Station. An employee in this position will perform a walk-around inspection of truck and trailer before each trip; does minor maintenance and repair (checks tires, brakes, oil level in wheel hubs, adjust brakes, repair lights, change tires, fuel tractor and DEF Fluid. This position will tarp loaded trailers, un-tarp when unloading; wash tractor and trailers and reports problems with equipment in writing and ensure equipment is taken to Street Shop for maintenance and repair. An employee in this position is expected to assist Transfer Station Operator and recycling center when unable to drive (i.e. weather conditions) and assist with snow removal when needed.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and two years’ full time truck trailer maintenance/operation and solid waste disposal work with lead or supervisor responsibilities. Candidates must possess a valid South Dakota commercial driver’s license, Class A.
This is a regular full-time position. The salary range for this position is Range 32, $51,764 to $65,533. Applications are available on the city website
