Day of the Dead Celebration

Subject: Día De Los Muertos – Day of the Dead Celebration

The Yankton Community Library is hosting a family movie weekend celebrating Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a traditional Mexican holiday. This event will be held at the library on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 starting at 2 pm each day. We are also asking people to submit photos for a community Ofrenda.

People are invited to contribute photos to our community Ofrenda as a way to honor friends and loved ones who have passed on. If you have a photo that you would like to contribute, you can send it to us at yanktonlib@gmail.com or through our Facebook page. We will be accepting photos through Wednesday, October 29. Photos will be printed and added to the community Ofrenda which will be up throughout our Day of the Dead celebration.

On Saturday, November 1 we will be showing the movie Book of Life in English with Spanish subtitles. The movie is rated PG and has a runtime of 1 hour and 35 minutes. On Sunday, November 2 we will be showing the Disney Pixar movie Coco in Spanish with English subtitles. The movie is rated PG with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 min. During both movies, we will have Day of the Dead coloring pages, an orange carnation craft, and snacks. The event is free and open to the public.
