Yankton Transit has twelve busses which provide an essential transportation service to the residents of Yankton. The transit service offers the only viable means of transportation for a significant part of the community's population. One half of the vehicles are handicap accessible. Riders include children, seniors and many others. Last year the program provided 117,677 rides representing 4,147 individuals.
The facilities headquarters is located at 901 East 7th Street. The building was built in cooperation with the City of Yankton and the State of South Dakota. The City of Yankton donated the cost of the land to help fund the construction of the project. Since 1998, the City has provided financial support to provide for the public transportation needs of the community. The City Commission currently provides $30,000 in funding for operations.
