Yankton Transit has ten
busses which provide an essential transportation service to the residents of
Yankton. The transit service offers the only viable means of
transportation for a significant part of the community's population. Three
of the vehicles are handicap accessible. Riders include children, seniors
and many others. Last year the program served 94,143 passengers
representing 2,572 individuals.
The facilities
headquarters is located at 901 East 7th Street. The building was built in
cooperation with the City of Yankton and the State of South Dakota. The
City of Yankton donated the cost of the land to help fund the construction of
the project. Since 1998, the City has provided financial support to
provide for the public transportation needs of the community. In 2006, the
City Commission, has provided $25,600 in funding for the operations.
