The Digital Library
For several years, the library has maintained several electronic and web resources. These web resources comprise our Digital Library. While we strongly believe that physical books will always have a place in our society, we are also proponents of digital items. Electronic items are automatically returned, eliminating late fees and overdue items. They also have strong positives for accessibility issues such as larger text size in eBooks. As an added bonus, the Digital Library is available 24/7/365!
Our digital collection consists of the following resources:
-
Overdrive
- Sometimes referred to as "South Dakota Titles to Go...", Overdrive is a platform with eBooks and eAudiobooks. You can download items to your computer, mobile device, eReaders, or read/listen right in your browser. It is our most popular electronic resource!
-
TumbleBooks
- TumbleBooks is a resource with eBooks and more for kids. Kids can read stories or have stories read to them, and many of the books are interactive.
-
Beanstack
- Beanstack is an online reading logging program. It can be used to record what you've been reading and earn badges. We are currently using it to facilitate our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
-

State Library Databases
-
The library offers several electronic databases through the South Dakota State Library. These databases are funded through the federal Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) grant for South Dakota. Some of the most popular resources here include: AncestryLibrary, ChiltonLibrary, HeritageQuest by Ancestry, Mango Languages, Digital Sanborn Maps, and more!
