COVID-19 Response

The Summit Activities Center Department is open with minimal restrictions as defined by Phase 3 of the City of Yankton Facilities and Services Plan

  • Phase 3- Criteria involved with this phase: active case numbers <20 in county, downward or flat trend in COVID-19 active cases.  This status is also affected by facility risk factors, staffing and or the availability of personal protective equipment.
  • The SAC is open to the public for summer hours, but with group size restrictions and social distancing requirements in place.  Public access will be limited.
    • Day pass users allowed.  SAC and GreatLIFE member access also.
    • Credit card transactions only.
    • Staff offices are open to the public but social distancing is required.  Calling ahead of time and setting up an appointment is recommended.
    • No SAC/High School facility rentals.  Facility access is also subject to recommendations of Yankton School District officials.
    • Personal training will be allowed with social distancing and the trainer wearing a mask.
    • Limit of 50 patrons in facility besides staff.  Facility users must respect the minimum of six-foot social distances at all times while using the facility.
      • Open only to adults (18 and over).
      • Each of the 50 facility users will be given a disinfectant spray bottle and clean towel and asked to wipe down all equipment or areas touched before and after use. The bottles will be numbered 1-50 and this will be a way that we are able to track when someone leaves and when a new user can enter.
      • Staff will wipe down spray bottles between users and get a clean towel for users also.
      • A GREEN sign will be placed at the entrance of the SAC indicating there is less than 50 people and we are allowing more entrants.A RED sign will be placed at the entrance when the facility has the maximum of 50 users to indicate no one should enter.
    • Men’s and women’s locker rooms remain closed.
      • Family locker room restrooms and single stall restrooms will be open.
      • The public will not be allowed to shower or change clothes in the facility.
    • Adult lap swim open in every other lane of the pool.
      • No open swims.
    • Adult access to weight and fitness area.
      • All equipment will be available.
      • Facility users must wipe down equipment BEFORE and AFTER use.
    • Every other cardio machine will be closed and unplugged.
    • No group fitness classes.
    • The gymnasiums will be closed.
    • Limiting drinking fountain access to the bottle fill spigots.
    • No adult or youth recreation programming.

The Summit Activities Center, located at 1801 Summit Street, features an indoor pool with water slide, two gymnasiums, three multi-purpose rooms, cardiovascular equipment, multi-station weights, free weights, small indoor track, and locker facilities. The outdoor facilities include eight lighted tennis courts, an all-weather track that is available to the public, two softball fields, a walking path around the perimeter of the property, and an arboretum with many different variety of trees and shrubs.


From birthday parties to dance recitals – the Summit Activities Center has a variety of areas that are available for reservation for any size event.  Meeting rooms, swimming pool, large theater, small theater, and sport courts.

Weight & Fitness

The facility offers an active schedule of fitness classes, including yoga, water aerobics, and personal training sessions. Adults also have the opportunity to participate in sports leagues that include volleyball, basketball, coed softball, and sand volleyball.

Visit our weight and fitness room and discover a large selection of cardiovascular equipment including; a step machine, a rowing machine, four stationary bicycles, five treadmills, nine elliptical machines and more. Choose from a complete inventory of free weights, dumbbells, exercise stations and selectorized weights to meet every weight training goal. Trained staff are available during evening hours for supervision and assistance with equipment.

Join us for a stroll, jog, or run on our indoor track. Fourteen times around the track equals one mile. Two lanes for walking, jogging, and running encompass our entire upstairs facility as you enjoy a climate controlled run or walk.

Two gymnasiums are available at the Summit. The main gym has 3 courts and will seat 3,400 spectators for sporting events. The auxiliary gym also has 3 courts and is available for open gym or one of the many recreation leagues that the Summit provides.


If it’s water activities that you are interested in then plan to visit our zero-depth, 218,000 gallon, seven lane pool with two story tall water slide and fountain. Open swim times are available along with water aerobics, Red Cross Swim Lessons and adult lap swimming.
