SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED 

The City of Yankton has received enough snow that a snow emergency will be going into effect.  Plowing will begin at 5:00 a.m. February 24th.  

A snow emergency will go into effect at 12:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2017.  The Department of Public Works will begin plowing streets at 5:00 AM Friday Friday, February 24, 2017.  The City asks for your cooperation to please have your vehicles removed from city streets by this time. Vehicles left on Emergency Snow Routes will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Tom KurtenbachTom Kurtenbach

Tom entered the world of public safety in 1981 as an EMT for his hometown ambulance service in Bridgewater, SD. He has been active in emergency services ever since. He was a member of the Pierre, SD Fire Department for 17 years having served as the Fire Department's paid superintendent. He spent most of the rest of his tenure in Pierre as a volunteer officer. Tom is active in emergency management having been employed by the State of South Dakota's Emergency Management Office. He enjoys serving on local emergency management boards and committees. He is currently the Yankton Fire Chief.

 

 

 

 Larry NicklesLarry Nickles

Larry has been a member of the Yankton Fire Department for 17 years, with the last 9 years serving in the capacity as Yankton Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal. Before he was a member of the Yankton Fire Department, Larry served as a firefighter in Sidney, Nebraska for nine years. Larry enjoys working with children and adults providing public education on fire safety.
