The Yankton Board of City Commissioners and Yankton Area Progressive Growth (YAPG) understand the importance housing plays in the economic and social health of our community. In 2013, the City and YAPG partnered to facilitate the creation of a housing study to help provide a clearer picture of where we are now, and where we need to go as it relates to housing in the community.  Much had happened in Yankton’s housing industry since 2013 so both entities agreed that the time had come to update the analysis to get a current picture of housing needs in the community.

The update took four months and was completed at the end of August 2017.  Based on their performance doing the first study, Community Partners Research, Inc. was again hired complete the update.  The analysis was presented to the City Commission at their special workshop meeting on September 25, 2017.  View the presentation.

The updated Yankton Housing Study provides excellent information related to the current housing situation in Yankton and recommendations for future action. It is hoped that the information in the Study serves as a catalyst for housing development in general while specifically targeting the identified areas of greatest need.
