National-Flood-Insurance-Program-logo-580x498The City of Yankton is participant in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Participation in the NFIP is voluntary and is based on an agreement between the community FEMA. 

If a community adopts and enforces a floodplain management ordinance to reduce flood risks, the NFIP in turn makes flood insurance available within the community as a financial protection against flood losses. 

The current Flood Insurance Rate Maps and Flood Insurance Study for the City of Yankton are dated July 6, 2010.  Copies may be obtained through the FEMA Map Service Center.  

Floodplain regulations for the City of Yankton can be found in Chapter 11 Article IV of the Code of Ordinances.

Development in the floodplain requires a Floodplain Development Permit.
