Floodplain

floodplain-fema-map-adoptionThe City of Yankton is an active participant in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Participation in the NFIP is voluntary and is based on an agreement between the community and the federal government.

If a community adopts and enforces a floodplain management ordinance to reduce flood risks, the federal government in turn makes flood insurance available within the community as a financial protection against flood losses.

The current Flood Insurance Rate Maps and Study for the City of Yankton are dated July 6, 2010.  Copies of the Maps may be obtained by contacting the Community and Economic Development Office or at the FEMA Map Service Center.

Floodplain regulations for the City of Yankton can be found in Chapter 11 Article IV of the Code of Ordinances.
