Strategic Planning

The Yankton City Commission and City staff are actively developing and updating a strategic plan for Yankton. The foundation of this process is based on "The Yankton Plan" the City's comprehensive plan adopted in 2003.  The strategic plan seeks to establish realistic goals and objectives consistent with the mission. During 2015 and 2016 the City Commission and staff worked to update the goals and priorities for the community.  They are organized by functional area and include projected completion dates for the specific actions that help reach those broad priorities.  Some of the deadlines are for plans to be in place or decisions to be made, while others are concrete project completion projections.
The document also highlights the “How,” the guiding values for the way the Commission and City staff will work towards those goals and interact with the public.  These “How’s” help us organize our daily work and make sure we’re addressing important needs while striving to make Yankton an even better place to live.  Finally, to help facilitate capital budgeting, the priorities have been further narrowed by year to allow for budget planning and setting capital priorities to meet the broad goals.
