SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED 

The City of Yankton has received enough snow that a snow emergency will be going into effect.  Plowing will begin at 5:00 a.m. February 24th.  

A snow emergency will go into effect at 12:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2017.  The Department of Public Works will begin plowing streets at 5:00 AM Friday Friday, February 24, 2017.  The City asks for your cooperation to please have your vehicles removed from city streets by this time. Vehicles left on Emergency Snow Routes will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

2014_city_electionThe proposed April 11, 2017 election is for three of the nine City Commission seats. City Commissioners are elected for a three year term. Nominating petitions must be filed in the City Finance Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday February 24, 2017.  Deadline for voter registration for the municipal election is March 27, 2017. The polls will be open on election day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Absentee voting begins March 27, 2016 and ballots may be cast at City Hall 416 Walnut Street from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

To vote, you must either:

  • Present a photo ID, or if not able to do so,
  • Sign an affidavit which will be given to you.
Accepted forms of photo identification include any one of the following:
  • A SD driver license or non-driver ID card; or
  • A US government photo ID; or
  • A tribal photo ID; or
  • A current student photo ID from a SD high school or SD Accredited institution of higher education.
