City Commission - Mission Statement and Goals

Strategic Planning
Simply put, strategic planning helps determine where an organization is going, gives it a sense of direction, guides how it's going to get there and measures the success in meeting the established goals. The Yankton City Commission and City Staff are actively developing a dynamic strategic plan for Yankton. The foundation of this process is based on "The Yankton Plan" the City's comprehensive plan adopted November, 2003. The strategic plan will help establish realistic goals and objectives consistent with the mission. This plan communicates the goals and objectives to the community and focuses key resources on those priorities. The City's Mission Statement describes the organization's overall purpose and reason to exist and the Value Statement, defines core values that guide the day-to-day activities.
The Mission Statement, Values Statement, and City of Yankton Goals listed are the product of the City's efforts to more clearly define and direct the focus of the community.
Mission Statement
The mission of the City of Yankton is to provide cost-effective, public services as required by its citizens and to provide an environment so that both its citizens and the economy prosper.
