Walnut Street Fire Feature available to public

Post Date:07/02/2019 3:42 PM

Walnut Street Fire Feature available to public

The Walnut Street reconstruction and new landscaping, from 4th Street to 2nd Street, have been completed.  The Walnut Street corridor landscaping and the landscaping along 2nd Street from Walnut to Capital were developed during the Design South Dakota process which was hosted by the Meridian District.

As a part of this planning process was the addition of a public fire feature.  The public fire feature is located on the northeast corner of the Walnut and 2nd Street intersection.

The fire feature will be available for public use from 4:00pm until 11:00pm.  The fire feature can be turned on using the green push button located on the steel pole to the north of the feature.  The feature will operate for approximately ten minutes after the green button is pushed and can be repeatedly turned on after each ten minutes.  There is also a red stop button which will turn the feature off prior to the ten minutes of operation ending.  In the case of an emergency and to turn off the power and gas supply to the feature, there is an emergency power off button also located on the steel pole.

The public is advised to stay off of the fire feature as all surfaces surrounding the fire pit may be hot even when not in use and no flames visible.  The public is asked not to sit on the blocks supporting the fire pit, the steel structure enclosing the fire pit, or the fire pit which includes the lava rock and burners.

The City of Yankton thanks all citizens and visitors for their cooperation in safely using this downtown amenity.
