2019 Boulevard Tree Planting Reimbursement Program

2019 Boulevard Tree Planting Reimbursement Program

The City of Yankton’s Urban Forestry efforts have been recognized by the Tree City USA program and its sponsors, the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, every year since 1984. Yankton annually meets the four standards to become a Tree City USA community:

  1. have a tree board or department;
  2. have a tree-care ordinance;
  3. have a comprehensive community forestry program;
  4. and have an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

In 2019, the City of Yankton’s City Commission is increasing the effort to have trees planted in the Mother City of the Dakotas as a part of the community forestry program.  The Commission has allocated funds to reimburse adjacent property owners for planting trees in the boulevard (also known as the street right-of-way).  The City will provide funds for 75% reimbursement, up to $100 maximum total, for one or two trees purchased and planted in “City approved” locations in the boulevard.  Property owners interested in this reimbursement program need to submit a completed “Boulevard Tree Planting Permit and Tree Planting Reimbursement Form” which can be obtained on the City’s website or by stopping in the Parks and Recreation Office at the Summit Activities Center.

This reimbursement program is a great opportunity for property owners and the City to share in the cost of planting trees along the street corridors and continue to make Yankton a very green Tree City USA!

If you have questions, please contact the Department of Parks and Recreation Office at 668-5231.
